It is difficult to compare one type of laser equipment to another. Most of the lasers used to day give great laser treatment with a high degree of satisfaction. Unfortunately very few studies have been performed comparing the different lasers used for refractive surgery. Recently, however, the peer-reviewed ophthalmological journal "Eye" reported a study in which NIDEK EC-5000 (our laser) is compared to the Bausch/Lomb Technolas 117 (another laser offered here in Iceland by a different company). In this report, a clear difference is found between the laser equipment in favor of the NIDEK laser:

We emphasize that in this study, a conventional method was used, not so-called sixth generation, or wavefront, treatment is utilized. The latter treatment is also available at our center, called NAVEX customized laser wavefront technology (Zyoptix with the Bausch and Lomb Technolas laser).
Is NAVEX treatment more costly than regular laser treatment? Absolutely not! The cost of all laser refractive operations is the same, irregardless of whether the wavefront technique is used or not.
We are extremely proud of our laser! We always offer the latest technology presented for the NIDEK EC-5000, including wavefront technique, tracking or rotational iris detection equipment. A specialist from NIDEK oversees our equipment every 8 months, adding the latest technology to our laser each time. In addition, we have a technical director standby at all times at Sjonlag Eye Center, taking care of all day-to-day maintenance of the laser and other equipment. We at Sjonlag Eye Center urge you to compare our refractive center to any other center offering laser refractive surgery.
We just know that in the end there really is no comparison.
